China plans to build lunar research base


Under China's three-phase lunar probe plans for orbiting the moon, landing on the moon and returning back to Earth, China is scheduled to launch the Chang'e-3 and softly land it on the moon, where it will release a moon rover to explore the lunar surface, by 2013.

China will carry out an unmanned lunar landing around 2017 before making manned lunar landings and building research bases on the moon, said Ouyang Ziyuan, chief scientist of China's lunar probe program, in Shanghai on May 9.

Ouyang made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the 2011 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation.

He said that the Chang'e-2 has operated safely for 200 days as of May 1. During the operation of the Chang'e-2 in space, four tiny cameras on the satellite recorded clear photographs, marking China's first-ever aerospace application of CMOS imaging technologies, first space surveillance engineering application, first photograph captured at the moment of igniting the 490N engine and first photograph of the Earth taken by a camera on an orbiting lunar orbiter.

However, is the ultimate mission of the Chang'e-2 to test soft-landing technologies for the Chang'e-3 or to test Earth reentry technologies for follow-up Chang'e series satellites after their lunar landings? Ouyang said that the ultimate mission of the Chang'e-3 Satellite has yet to be determined. Whatever mission is selected, the Chang'e-2 will test key technologies for follow-up tasks of Chang'e series satellites before completing its lunar trip.

For instance, the Chang'e-2 can either make a "pilot" soft-landing in order to test technologies for the Chang'e-3 or return to Earth orbit under ground control and simulate the return of future Chang'e series satellites to earth after 2013.

Ouyang said that the Chang'e-3 will be equipped with a 70-kilogram lander and a 120-kilogram moon rover. The satellite will weigh about 500 kilograms and will have a designed life of three months. As the intelligent robotic technology develops, the rover will be able to determine its own routes, climb slopes, avoid obstacles and pick a good spot to perform science experiments with a collection of sensors. Furthermore, it will even be capable of collecting samples from the moon and sending them back to Earth for further studies.

Ouyang said that China plans to send recoverable rovers and humans to the moon at appropriate times. In addition, China is also considering building a research base on the moon and exploring Mars and other parts of outer space. To achieve its goal, the country is building a new satellite launch center and is making great efforts to develop more advanced rocket engines.

Industri ruang angakasa (Space Industry) telah menjadi garda terdepan dalam dunia bisnis dunia. Mulai dari industri satelit, peluncuran, roket ruang angkasa, maupun industri turisme ruang angkasa, industri hiburan bernuansa ruang angkasa dll.

Ditetapkannya Nias sebagai salah satu alternatif peluncuran roket Lapan, Indonesia, telah membangkitkan gairah untuk menjadikan Sumatera Utara sebagai basis produksi industri ruang angkasa.

Generasi muda energetik Sumatera Utara akan sangat siap memenuhi SDM dalam industri ini. Pusat-pusat industri KIM di Medan, sudah terkenal cukup mumpuni dalam menyediakan software dan hardware dalam industri ini.

Saatnya Gubernur Sumatera Utara mencanangkan Sumut sebagai basis industri ruang angkasa di Indonesia, saatnya universitas-universitas lokal membuka jurusan teknik ruang angkasa untuk menjawab tantangan zaman.

Universitas Bung Hatta Pelopori Industri Dirgantara di Sumatera

Prototipe pesawat aeromodeling rancangan Syaifa Mulyadi, mahasiswa Teknik Elektro Universitas Bung Hatta , ternyata tidak hanya untuk olahraga kedirgantaraan. Tetapi pesawat mini tanpa awak itu juga bisa digunakan kegiatan promosi melalui udara.

Syaifa bersama Minang Aeromodelling menerbangkan spanduk bertuliskan Universitas Bung Hatta dengan pesawat aeromodelling di kawasan Ketaping, Kabupaten Padangpariaman, kamis (21/5/2009).

Menurut David, pilot Minang Aeoromodeling, sebuah pesawat aeoromodeling mampu menerbangkan spanduk seukuran 8 meter dengan lebar 90 cm dengan radius 5 Km serta ketinggian lebih dari 1 Km, sedangkan lamanya terbang tergantung dari kapasitas tanki bahan bakar, namun rata-rata kapasitas tanki yang tersedia hanya untuk setengah jam.

Booming olahraga aeromodelling di Batam, Siapa mau ikut???

Meski baru berusia setahun, komunitas pecinta olahraga dirgantara yang berada di bawah naungan Danlanud Tanjungpinang sebagai ketua Pordirga ini sudah mampu mendirikan koperasi yang memudahkan anggotanya membeli pesawat.

”Ayo Dan, mau landing nih,” seru John F Batubara sambil terus memegang kendali pesawat dari remote control di tangannya.

Danni Sapta pun berlari-lari kecil ke arah lapangan setelah terlebih dulu memperkirakan arah angin dan arah pesawat jenis glider yang akan landing. Tak berapa lama, pesawat dengan dimensi 2 meter untuk panjang sayap dan 1, 75 meter untuk ujung pesawat hingga ekor yang membawa kamera itu pun ditangkap Danni dengan mulus.

Pesawat jenis glider yang Minggu sore (29/3) lalu diterbangkan John F Batubara, salah seorang anggota BAC memang harus ditangkap saat landing. Sebab jika harus mendarat di tanah, dikhawatirkan kamera video yang terpasang akan rusak.
Oleh John, di sayap pesawat aeromodelling ini memang sengaja dipasangi video. Kamera video yang sudah dalam posisi on ini untuk merekam gambar dari udara. Setelah terbang sekitar 10 menit di atas lokasi Pantai Pasir Putih Batam Centre, video yang tadi dibawa pun diputar. Hasilnya rekaman gambar dari udara di atas ketinggian 1 km terlihat cukup memuaskan.

Kegiatan ini umumnya digemari oleh peminat ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi secara perorangan ataupun yang tergabung dalam organisasi sosial kemasyarakatan, yang digunakan untuk menyebarluaskan minat kedirgantaraan di bidang aeromodelling seperti Pramuka melalui kegiatan SAKA (Satuan Karya) Dirgantara, Karang Taruna, UKM (Unit kegiatan Mahasiswa) di kampus-kampus serta perkumpulan-perkumpulan olah raga kedirgantaraan, seperti CAM.

UAE already on board the space wagon

UAE investment fund Aabar said in July it will pay about $280 million (Dh1 billion) to buy nearly a third of commercial space travel startup Virgin Galactic.

The buy-in by Aabar Investments of Abu Dhabi gives British billionaire Sir Richard Branson's space tourism venture a big fin-ancial kickstart at a time when many funding sources have dried up because of the global recession. It also provides the UAE a chance to acquire space flight capability of its own.

Space Technology in Iran

Al Alam says "Kavoshgar 2" (Explorer 2), seen here, returned to earth 40 minutes later on a parachute after performing its functions in the lower reaches of space. Tehran unveiled the first Iranian-made satellite, called Omid (Hope) and inaugurated its first space center earlier in February when it launched a research rocket.

Unmanned Japanese Freighter Arrives at ISS

The Japanese H-II HTV delivers 3.5 tons of supplies and science experiments to the International Space Station. Unlike previous European and Russian automated freighters re-supplying the space station, Japan's spacecraft is equipped to bring both pressurized and unpressurized cargo to the ISS. After a month's stay at the ISS, the H-II HTV will be sent home, burning up as it enters the earth's atmosphere.

Japan's first unmanned space freighter reached the International Space Station Sept. 17, marking another milestone in international space cooperation. Hovering approximately 30 feet away from the ISS, the Japanese cargo pod was grasped by a Canadian-built robotic arm with European and American astronauts at controls. The entire operation was overseen by a Russian commander.

Spaceport America

The unveiling of the Spaceport America brand shines light on a visionary project many years in the making. New Mexico’s weather and wide-open spaces have been ideal for the aerospace industry since Robert Goddard, the Father of Modern Rocketry, began conducting research in Roswell in the 1930s. He was followed by Wernher von Braun in the 1940s, and NASA in the 1980s.

By the early 1990s, a group of like-minded individuals called, the Southwest Space Task Force, felt the impetus to take New Mexico’s space industry to the next level: commercial space and reusable launch vehicles. Based on years of study, they zeroed in on 27 square-miles of state-owned land, 45 miles north of Las Cruces as a location for an inland spaceport. When Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Rick Homans took office in 2003, they went to him and pleaded their case.

Homans then picked up the torch, presenting the idea of a New Mexico spaceport to Governor Richardson, negotiating with the X Prize Foundation to locate the X Prize Cup in New Mexico, spearheading legislation to finance the spaceport, and most recently, recruiting four aerospace mavericks — including Virgin Galactic — to New Mexico.

Spaceport

A spaceport, astrodrome or cosmodrome (Russian: космодром) is a site for launching (or receiving) spacecraft, by analogy with seaport for ships or airport for aircraft. The word spaceport, and even more so cosmodrome, has traditionally been used for sites capable of launching spacecraft into orbit around Earth or on interplanetary trajectories. However, rocket launch sites for purely sub-orbital flights are sometimes called spaceports. In recent years new and proposed sites for suborbital human flights have commonly been named spaceports. Space stations are sometimes called spaceports, in particular if intended as a base for further journeys.

The term rocket launch site is used for any facility from which rockets are launched. It may contain one or more launch pads or suitable sites to mount a transportable launch pad. It is surrounded with large safety area named rocket range or missile range. The range includes the area over which launched rockets are expected to fly, and within which some components of the rockets may land. Tracking stations, vessels, and aircraft are often located in the range to assess the progress of the launches.

Major spaceports often include more than one launch complex, which can be well-separated (for safety reasons) rocket launch sites adapted for different types of launch vehicles. For launch vehicles with liquid propellant, suitable storage facilities and, in some cases, production facilities are necessary. On-site processing facilities for solid propellants are also common.

A spaceport can also include runways for takeoff and landing of spacecraft equipped with wings.
